ScienceFest 2017

May 4, 2017
8:00 A.M.-3:00 P.M.

On May 4, 2017, the Oklahoma Department of Mines (ODM) manned an activity station at the Oklahoma City State Fairgrounds for ScienceFest 2017.  Assisting Student Outreach Coordinator Stacy Woody with this event were ODM staff members, Kevin Woody, Linda Landon, Doug Cross, Matt Moss, Troy Young, Ginna Harmon, and Andrea Adams, along with OMTI Director Clarence Stanley, and volunteer Sherry Stanley.

The ODM activity station was entitled "Mining for Marbles", which gave the students the opportunity to mine the marbles, process their materials, and cash it in at the market station for an "Honorary Oklahoma Miner" hand stamp.  The station was intended to give the students a sense of the mining process.

Approximately 2,600 fourth, fifth, and sixth graders, and 123 teachers from 31 area schools attended this annual event.  The students participated in numerous environmental activities related to science and natural resources protection.
