Oklahoma Miner Training Institute (OMTI)

MISSION

The Oklahoma Miner Training Institute (OMTI) is operated under the direction of the Oklahoma Mining Commission. The Institute, located in Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton, provides training in all aspects of mine safety and health. Regularly scheduled classes are provided at the school, or at the mine sites throughout the state to minimize the inconvenience to both miners and operators.  All training provided by the Institute is free of charge to the mining companies who hold permits in Oklahoma.

OMTI TRAINING COURSES

Each year the Annual Oklahoma Mine Health and Safety Conference is sponsored by the Oklahoma Miners' Training Institute to provide the mining industry with greater health and safety awareness.  Topics fOR conference workshops address Respirator Use, Electrical Safety, Work Place Examination, Bloodborne Pathogens Update, Powered Haulage Accident Prevention, Contractors working in Mining Operations, Safety Equipment Demonstrations, Drugs in the Workplace, Stress in the Workplace, and Waste/Stockpile Safety.

UNDERGROUND ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETINGS AND TESTING

The Underground Advisory Council (UAC) will be conducting its meetings and testing on the second Tuesday of each month.  Except the month of December due to Holidays and campus closings.  Based on the availability of meeting space at Kiamichi Technology Center in Spiro throughout the year, the second Tuesday is most conducive for continuous scheduling.  Again, the permanent UAC meeting and testing date for underground coal miner certifications is the second Tuesday of each month at:
